Professional Decorating London

Decorating and Room Transformation

Thoughtful decorating, beautifully finished

At The Greenwich Home Co., we provide high-quality residential decorating and painting for homeowners who care about the finish. From carefully prepared single-room transformations to complete home redecoration, we manage the process from preparation through to the final coat.

Our decorating service covers interior and exterior painting, wallpapering, surface preparation, minor plaster repairs and decorative finishes, with particular experience working in period properties where existing details need to be treated with care.

We can also combine decorating with our bespoke carpentry and joinery, making it easier to create a cohesive result when a project involves both built-in furniture and decorating.

Whether you’re refreshing one room, redecorating several spaces or carrying out a wider home improvement project, we focus on the details that make the finished space feel considered.

We carry out most wallpapering in-house. Where a project calls for an unusually specialist finish, we can bring in an appropriate specialist to ensure the result meets the required standard.

Surface preparation & repairs

Good decorating starts with good preparation. Depending on the condition of the room, our preparation work can include:

  • Surface preparation
  • Filling and making good
  • Sanding
  • Caulking
  • Stain blocking
  • Surface repairs
  • Minor plaster repairs
  • Repairing cracked plaster
  • Wallpaper removal
  • Mould treatment where appropriate
  • Lining paper
  • Preparation of previously painted surfaces

The preparation stage can be one of the biggest determinants of the final appearance. We take the time to address imperfections rather than relying on paint to hide them.

Plastering & decorative mouldings

We undertake minor plastering and repair work as part of decorating projects, including:

  • Plaster patching
  • Minor plaster repairs
  • Cracked plaster repairs
  • Localised skimming where appropriate
  • Cornice repairs
  • Coving repairs
  • New coving
  • Decorative mouldings

Where a project requires extensive plastering or specialist work outside our usual scope, we can coordinate the appropriate specialist rather than trying to force the work into a decorating package.

Exterior painting & decorating

We also provide exterior painting for timber and metal elements around the home, including:

  • Exterior doors
  • Timber windows
  • Sash windows
  • Exterior window frames
  • Exterior timber
  • Garden buildings
  • Timber structures
  • Fences
  • Gates
  • Exterior metalwork
  • Metal fences and gates

As a general rule, if it is an exterior timber or metal element that needs painting, we can usually help. We do not currently offer painting of exterior masonry or rendered walls.

Decorating for properties in and around London

Period properties often need a different approach to straightforward modern decorating. Original joinery, sash windows, cornices, panelled walls, uneven surfaces and existing architectural details all influence how a room should be prepared and finished.

We work with Victorian, Edwardian and other period homes, taking care to retain and enhance their existing character while creating a finish that feels appropriate to the wider interior.

That might mean carefully preparing original woodwork, painting sash windows, repairing damaged plaster, working around existing cornices or choosing colours and finishes that complement the property’s architectural details.

Our experience isn’t limited to period properties, though. We also decorate contemporary homes, recently purchased properties and homes undergoing broader renovation or improvement.

Decorating alongside bespoke carpentry

Decorating is often the final stage of a larger transformation, particularly when new joinery or built-in furniture is involved.

Because The Greenwich Home Co. also provides bespoke carpentry and joinery, we can coordinate the two sides of the project rather than treating them as completely separate jobs.

This can include:

  • Built-in wardrobes
  • Alcove units
  • Bookshelves
  • Wall panelling
  • Banquette seating
  • Dressing rooms
  • Built-in storage
  • Bespoke cabinetry
  • Painted joinery

We can prepare, paint and finish new built-in furniture as part of the same project, helping the carpentry and decorating work feel like one cohesive design rather than a series of separate trades.

This is particularly useful where a room requires both new joinery and redecoration.

Colour, paint & finish selection

Choosing a colour is only part of creating a successful decorating scheme. The sheen, substrate, existing finishes, natural light and relationship between adjoining rooms can all affect the finished result.

We can advise on:

  • Paint colours
  • Paint finishes
  • Woodwork finishes
  • Coordinating colours between rooms
  • Feature colours
  • Wallpaper selection
  • Finishes for period properties
  • How new joinery should relate to existing decoration

For clients who already have a clear vision, we can work from an established scheme. Where the direction is less certain, we can help refine the choices before work begins.

From one room to a complete home

We undertake decorating projects of different scales, including single-room redecoration, multi-room projects and whole-house decorating.

Typical projects include:

  • Living rooms
  • Dining rooms
  • Bedrooms
  • Hallways and landings
  • Home offices
  • Children’s rooms
  • Dressing rooms
  • Staircases and entrance halls
  • Period property interiors
  • Recently purchased homes
  • Complete home redecoration
  • Decorating as part of a wider renovation
  • Decorating alongside bespoke carpentry and joinery

For larger projects, having one point of contact across preparation, decorating and associated carpentry can make the process considerably easier to manage.

Our approach to decorating

We don’t treat decorating as putting paint on walls. The quality of the finished result depends on the decisions made before the first coat is applied.

We begin by understanding the property, the existing surfaces and what you want the finished space to achieve. We then establish the required preparation, materials and finishes before carrying out the work.

Our approach prioritises:

Thorough preparation Filling, sanding, caulking and repairing surfaces before painting.

Careful application Clean lines, consistent coverage and attention to the details around architectural features and joinery.

Appropriate materials Selecting paints and finishes according to the surface, use of the room and desired appearance.

A tidy working environment Protecting the surrounding property and keeping the workspace organised throughout the project.

A considered finish Making sure new decoration works with the architecture, existing finishes and other elements of the room.

Decorating across London and Kent

The Greenwich Home Co. provides residential decorating and painting services across London and Kent, with a particular focus on homeowners looking for a high-quality, carefully managed finish.

We work with both modern and period properties, from individual rooms to larger home improvement projects.

If your project involves decorating alongside carpentry, joinery or other improvements, we can also coordinate these elements as part of a wider project.

Frequently asked questions
